Que Paradiso!

We awoke slowly this morning and as I was about to grab my yoga mat, we saw our amigo on a boat headed directly towards our hotel...wakeboarding! He had advised us before we left, so we brought a wakeskate to the lake from home. One of the young boat drivers named Pancho was excited to take us out for a round. We brought a small rope from home, made a handle out of PVC pipe and made a float out of a plastic soda bottle...MacGyver style! I got to go first and it was unbelievable to be playing in such a gorgeous lake surrounded by volcanos! Michael went next, but the small PVC pipe broke right away and we had to jerry-rig another handle out of thick tubing used for siphoning gas-it worked! We didn´t get Pancho out there for a try yet because he was wearing jeans, but hopefully tomorrow. So fun!

Yesterday, we walked into town and bought a pineapple, green coconut for drinking, a mango and a few limes for $2. We walked down to the dock and enjoyed out feast in the shade. We have also been enjoying chocolate covered frozen bananas for a quarter each! Tastes like ice cream! We walked around the pueblo (town) and watched a local men´s league play soccer. It was a great match and pretty amazing that they were able to clear enough flat land to make a field since the town in nestled in the steep hills. Wandering around is like walking the steep streets of San Francisco. After a leisurely dinner at Los Abrazos again (green smoothie with local wild greens, avocado and banana and some guacamole with handmade corn tortilla), we walked down to the dock by our hotel and watched lightning over the volcanos while being surrounded by the lights of fireflies!! It is very beautiful and we send great blessings of GRATITUDE!!

Hasta luego mis amigos!! XO, Kelly Ordway

Viva Guatemala!!

Well, I finally figured out how to sign back into my blog, but uploading the pictures might be a little trickier! Guatemala is warm and beautiful here at the lake. Yesterday was overcast, which was actually perfact for walking around to explore a new town. We came here to San Pedro to start because our friend is here for a few months running a hostel. It took us 3 planes, a taxi, a bus and a boat, but everything went smooth! Alas, we are Lago Atitlan, surrounded by coffee plants and volcanos! San Pedro is an interesting town. The Buddha Bar is covered with Om symbols and a big Buddha statue. It is also covered with young travelers drinking booze and smoking weed on the roof....hmm. We are told you can go into one of the hotels, ask where the party is in Spanish and they will sell you cocaine in the back room. It is a party town indeed, but it is also a lovely town of beautiful Guatemalan women carrying huge baskets of fruit on their head and sweet smiling locals. A short walk from the hostel, a young women pulls a makeshift electrical cord from her home to the corner to fuel her Jack LaLanne juicer!! No greens here, but she makes great carrot/orange juice. I carry it back to the palapa to mix with my Spirulina and Vitamineral Greens to start the day. That is followed by fresh local papaya or mangos. Paradise for me! I have been surprised at the beautiful clean salads I have been able to enjoy. It seems that mango season has just replaced avocado season, so we have yet to enjoy guacemole!

Today we are packing up to stay in San Marcos for a few days. It appears to be on the opposite spectrum of this town, as its focus is yoga and meditation. Yesterday we took the boat there for the day and found a place called Los Abrazos, which means hugs. This creative man from the states scuplted these beautiful seats where you are being embraced by a Mayan or are in the wings of a condor or eagle. The heads of the birds are fire ovens where they make pizza every evening. They have cacao there, imported from Oaxaca, Mexico and the local woman who owns the place made me an amazing Mayan cacao drink that was like hot chocolate, only not too sweet and made with real cacao...the kind that opens your heart he says! It was amazing!! It is more lush and green over there and we had lunch by the lake next to the garden where they grew the greens for my salad. My bowel movements are a bit off in their color, but overall, my tummy is doing really well. We have been taking our proboitics and digestive enzymes! I am excited to share photos, but will wait until I have more time to figure out how to do that! I love you my family and will connect again when I get the opportunity!!

Share the love and peace in your heart! XOXO, Kelly O

Inspirational blog comment and INFINITE POTENTIAL

I got this message from some friends who are traveling right now. How is this message for inspiration?!! I continue to be amazed at how much we continue to inspire and uplift one another. Thank you for inspiring me!!

HI Kelly, We've been keeping up with your blog since you've been on the Juice Feast & we can't thank you more for the inspiration you have embedded into us. We've been on a "life" tour for our bodies & have become stronger, leaner & wiser about the things we put into our bodies. What a joy it is to feel good & gracious for the body that God has given us. Presently, we're in Bishop, California (Sierra Mountains) where our hearts are one with nature. So far we have been on a raw foods diet, occasionally having an Ezekiel Tortilla or some beans, but mainly only the goods that have been blessed with the sun's giving love. I've dropped 6 sizes since I last e-mailed you & I FEEL AWESOME! We have 6 more weeks here in Bishop before heading back home to Montana (very excited to come home) and we're living, loving & dancing our lives into a beautiful reality of the way it should be. Thank you!

This next sharing is from Amorreah and Kerrie Dancing Butterfly from The Light School. You can check them out at www.theLIGHTSCHOOL.com

INFINITE POTENTIAL

We stand here now, with the freedom to explore the expansive territory of our infinite potential. As time unfolds, we are much closer to realizing that we are the Designers of the Map, that Time's great spiral destiny is unraveling through humanity's devotion to Illumination. It is becoming lucidly clear that illuminating the Self is 'Prime Directive' and interwoven with illuminating the Planet. Our personal evolution is not only inseparable, but absolutely critical, to the Earth's awakening.

To cast no shadow is to become your own Light Source -- radiant, emanating Ambassador of the Great Central Sun -- no longer living off the light of others or hiding within the dark folds of the ego's secret delusions and agendas. The Earth speaks her intelligent request: "Clear your fields, align your intent and raise your vibration, so that our work together is impeccable and sent forth for the highest good of us all."

As we wake up to our soul's inherent design as Earth Steward / Light keeper / Healer, some of us are left bewildered at how we can possibly live up to the potential of this insistent message we hear from within. The seed of our Ultimate Embodiment has just begun to sprout through the layers of soil that have been gestating us. At times, it feels a daunting task to climb the spiral ladder of consciousness, outgrow limiting patterns, egoic comforts, fears, and self-doubt, to become a Divine Human, and to do it quick enough to 'save the planet' from the 'deluge of darkness'. Breathe deep and exhale here. Rest assured, the seed of your soul has a perfect timing mechanism of awakening, as does every other soul, along with the planet and communal consciousness. We are all perfectly interweaving, attracting the right inner and outer experiences to spark the continuum of our healing and awakening. Strengthening, honoring, and blissfully surrendering to our unique inherent gifts is all that is needed. To succeed collectively, we must offer unconditional support for each other's individual choices during this process.

For many of us, 2007 challenged the stability of our identity by unraveling our subconscious imprints and areas of our personality that are outdated for these accelerated times. We brought these to the surface by manifesting situations that would test the infrastructure of our being. We are in the dynamic recalibration that comes during times of crisis, and like a centrifuge, that which is not sound and integral to our Divine Axis must spin off. In 2008 this process continues, but also sees the blossoming of our infinite potential flowering open, as the sheaths of the bud yield to the explosive desires of our innermost being to receive the Light.

Aaah, yes! Beautiful words and vibrations. We are leaving for Guatemala tomorrow, so we'll see when I blog next. I enjoy sharing, so I imagine to be posting sometime this week, but first and foremost is time with my honey bunches of love, in LOVE!! Wishing you each breaths of pure Light!

XO, Kelly O

Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte

Jerry kitty is so content simply sitting in a box :)

You cannot transform anyone, not even yourself. All you can do is create a space for transformation to happen, for grace and love to enter. - Eckart Tolle

Have you seen "Stroke of Insight" yet? I think this is such a beautiful testimonial of life! Here's a short description, although it is about so much more than our brains...

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another.

Click here to check it out!! What did you think?

I made raw burgers and raw ketchup this week from Living Cuisine, by Renee Underkoffler. I made the Lower East side Patties recipe and they were Yum! The base was broccoli, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. The leftover patties kept well in the fridge and were a yummy protein snack in the afternoon. Do you have her book? Amazing! Try the Chocolate Mousse Pie with Vanilla Cream Frosting! Even my conventional eating friends say it is the best dessert they have ever had!

Living Cuisine, by Renee Underkoffler

It is an absolutely gorgeous morning here today! It is cold because the sky was clear last night, but it's so nice to see the blue skies! I chanted my way to the mailbox early this morning with our dogs (our driveway is 1/4 mile long and shared with 5 other neighbors!) Tomorrow is my 33rd birthday! Happy Birthday to me! I'm happy to be feeling youthful and healthy and to be surrounded by such amazing family and friends...very, very grateful! My mom and ma-in-law just returned to my parents place in Tucson after sharing a week together at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center. It's the 1st time they have done something with just the 2 of them and they loved each other's company! It sounded like a blissful week of enjoying raw food at the cafe, joining Gabriel Cousens for the evening meditations and walking the labyrinth. What a lovely way to spend Spring Break! No case of the nightmarish in-laws here!

HAVE THE BEST DAY EVER!!!

Pumpkin Mylk Tapioka and Moon Cycle

Looking forward to walking on a beach again! This was several years back in the Bahamas.

Blessings sweet lovelies of the world!! I don't know if you read the comment from Carrie the other day, but gave me this delicious recommendation...

Hi Kelly, If you're into pumpkin seeds, and trying chia seeds, try this: make a pumpkin seed milk (just like almond milk), and then toss in a few Tbs of chia seeds to soak overnight in the fridge. With a little honey and vanilla, you've got an amazingly nutritious tapioca drink. I had it for breakfast every day for a while in the fall when I figured out that could exist!

Oooh lala, baby! This is one tasty treat! I didn't use a recipe, but this is my best educated guess..

Pumpkin Seed Mylk
1 cup pumpkin seeds (soak for atleast 4 hours, then rinse and drain)

2 cups water

1 inch of Vanilla Bean

1-2 Tbsp Honey

[Bulk] Organic Tahitian Variety Grade A Vanilla Beans - 20 Beans

Blend and savor the delish froth! Pour into a pint jar. Add 1-2 Tbsp Chia seeds and leave in fridge overnight. Awake the next morning to sunshine out your window. Practice yoga with your favorite local teacher and then enjoy your delicious, well-deserved treat!! This drink also felt REALLY good inside my body. Nourishing, easy to digest and also the chia seeds made it feel quite filling.
p.s. Seeds are easier to digest than nuts and mylks are the easiest way to digest nuts/seeds.
Moon Cycle.. I just began my menses again, in rhythm with the full moon! It had been 2 1/2 months since my last and I am happy for it have returned. I wasn't too worried about it, as this has happened before when I was so active playing soccer in college and my body fat was very low. This obviously happened again with my body fat going low in the cleansing physiology of my Juice Feast. I have gained a few lbs back and seem pretty stabilized between 125-130 lbs. This is a happy place for my body to be able to maintain my cycle. And, now I have an entire vacation with no menses!! Yahoo!! Please be aware that I was under-consuming a bit on my Feast- the last 2 weeks, I usually had 3 quarts a day rather than 4 or more. This was not on purpose, but simply listening to my body. I believe in the future, I might feel more apt to consume more on a Juice Feast and not go under my ideal weight.

I must go whip up some dipping sauce for spring rolls and salad dressing...we have some amigos visiting from Helena and we're making spring rolls and salad tonight!
Feel the Love! Kelly O

Preparing for Guatemala!!

Aaaah....chillin' in the hammock with good friends! This picture is actually from Mexico a few years ago. I'm not into the cerveza (beer) anymore, but jugo (juice) y agua es muy bien!
The countdown continues and we are exactly a week away from our honeymoon departure! We actually got married this summer (on 07-07-07, after 7 years together), but wanted to wait for the winter to seek our sunshine vacation! Now, the beautiful volcanic lake of Lago Atitlan awaits our arrival! Tuesday is my birthday-I'm turning 33 years young and then we leave the next day... Happy Birthday to me...! I get lots of probiotics in my Vitamineral Greens, but wanted to really load up before and during our journey, so we are taking some capsules 2-3x/day now as well. We arrive in Guatemala City at 5 am, taxi to the bus station, bus to Panachel, then boat to San Marcos/San Pedro. I am visualizing calm waters, clear skies and an organic juice bar, where someone actually makes my juice for me...what a luxury!
What goodies am I going to pack?

  • Bentonite clay- handy in the case of Montezuma's revenge or food poisoning
  • Lavender essential oil - great for soothing over-sunned skin
  • Thieves essential oil - tastes yummy in water and is an amazing anti-viral/anti-bacterial
  • prunes and Smooth Move tea - just in case!
  • soaked and dehydrated sunflower and pumpkin seeds - pumpkin seeds are anti-parasitical
  • Chia Seeds - I haven't used these much yet, but want to check 'em out :) They ar an ingredient in Earth, which i add to my smoothies sometimes.
  • Nori sheets - mmm... seaweed!
  • Vitamineral Green and Spirulina
  • Probiotics - I bought Kyo-Dophilus. David Rainoshek recommended Jarrow's, but they need to be refrigerated.
  • maybe some raw food bars

Here's some info on chia seeds I got off Raw Food World:

The Chia Seed is an amazing food. For centuries many have used the seeds for a host of different reasons. Native Americans would take a pouch of seeds and a gourd of water on their trips. The seeds were their food source and taken with the water they would hydrate their bodies for endurance. When you hydrate the seeds in water the seeds shell opens up and absorbs up to nine times its volume in water. This then forms a gel, which is called Chia Seed Gel. The gel helps keep your body hydrated. The gel is also 90% soluble fiber, which is beneficial for your digestive track. People use the seeds when they are involved in sports or physical activities for endurance.
The seeds have twice the protein of any other seed or grain, five times the calcium of milk, boron which is trace mineral that helps transfer calcium into your bones, omega 3 and omega 6 which are essential oils for the body. They also have a very long list of valuable nutrients in them naturally. The soluble fiber in the gel forms a wall between carbohydrates and the body, releasing them slowly into the body. This has been found to be very helpful for people who have trouble controlling their sugar levels like Diabetics. Dieters love the seeds because it can be added to any food or drink in a ratio of 75% to the volume of food or drink and will not change the taste. Because the carbohydrates are released slowly you will get the feeling of being full. Many use the seeds as a way to control their appetites. The gel has no taste.

The best way to use the seeds is to take the seeds already hydrated so they will not absorb your own body fluids to hydrate. The seeds may be added to anything from water to juice and any food. Any age bracket could benefit from adding the seeds to their diet. Whether it is for physical activity, added nutrition, controlling weight or sugar levels, the seeds have been known to help all of these The most unique part is that it is only a seed, nothing artificial and the cost is minimal. You do not need too much protein or omega 3 and 6 so the maximum of the gel you will need is three tablespoonfuls three times a day of the gel. Once a day you may substitute one tablespoon of dry seeds in place of the three tablespoons of gel. Along with the seeds you will receive directions on how to make the gel and their nutritional values.
Directions for using Chia Seeds:
Put 1/3 cup dry seeds into two cups of warm water whisk, wait fifteen minutes, then whisk again then store gel in refrigerator. Use three tablespoons three times a day of the gel (seeds hydrated). You can mix them into any drink or food and may even just take the gel.

I think these goodies will help keep our bodies happy and nutrient dense. We are visualizing lots of gorgeous local fruits, guacamole, salsa and fresh juices. Not to mention, sunbathing, dancing, being immersed in another colorful culture, practicing my un-nurtured Spanish skills and celebrating our LOVE!! XOXO, Kelly O

7 Strange Things You Might Not Know About Me

Seven Strange Things You Might Not Know About Me

Gia from Science of Energy Healing has tagged me ! She wrote this about the tag...

In the land of blogs there is a tag game known as a meme. You write about something that someone has suggested (see the title above) and tag the person who tagged you and several more. It’s about building a bigger awareness for the blog through link love.

While I was putting this together, Poppy tagged me too! Here goes...

Hmmm...where to begin?

1. I was a competitive soccer player most of my life. I started playing soccer when I was seven and played pretty much non-stop through college. Living in Tucson, the warm weather was suited for year-round leagues, so there were only about 2 weeks every year that I wasn't involved with a team. I loved it!! My family was incredibly supportive, as our family vacations were often to soccer tournaments (there was plenty of mountain camping, Disneyland and San Diego beaches mixed in there too!). My dad was very active in this part of life, always finding me the best team to play on, helping with team administration, driving me to practice in Phoenix twice a week my senior year in high school after nearly my entire team graduated and went away to college and arranging recruiting trips for me to check out colleges. I was captain of my high school Varsity team. My club team was the 4th best in the nation in 1992. I played Division I NCAA soccer at Pepperdine University. I became captain of that team and had the most minutes played until I injured my knee the spring of my senior year. So, soccer has been a huge part of my life. Then, after college, I was ready to explore my time in other ways like hiking the mountains of Montana. I didn't play soccer for 3 years after college (partially because of my knee and partially due to other interests). Then, I played in the women's league here for a few years and had a blast. I had to re-train myself, coming from competitive collegiate soccer, that it wasn't cool to slide tackle teammates at practice!! Now, it has been several years again without playing regularly and that is fine with me-it seems to ebb and flow with joy!

2. I was married previously. My college honey bunches (Carl Lithander) and I got married the fall after I graduated from college up here in Whitefish. We went into the Peace Corps together that next spring. We divorced after 21/2 years and he died a year later (breaking his neck riding his bicycle). Life is such a trip! You just never know what twists and turns may be sent your way. I have a strong feeling that we will be journeying again together in another lifetime, or some other form of reality. We have communicated in the dream world, but it has been a long time.

3. I am fluent in Pidgin English. I was in the Peace Corps in Papua New Guinea for a year, where I learned the language. Carl and I went to the remote village of Uiaku to live with the Maisin people. We worked with Green Peace and Conservation Melanesia in an alternative income-generation project. We helped them sell their traditional clothing (tapa cloth) as artwork instead of selling their land to mining and logging companies. We lived in a bush hut, washed our clothes and dishes in the river (sand makes a good substitute for steel wool), and played a lot of cribbage! I went (as the only woman) with Carl and about 20 native PNG men deep into the bush on a bio-diversity survey. It is very likely that this was and will be the furthest away from civilization I will have ever been. A helicopter dropped us off in the middle of a dry river bed and after the last drop off, we all stared at one another and someone asked, "Now, where are we?" in Pidgin as he pulled out a map. It was amazing! We saw lots of wild orchids, a tree kangaroo, the world's largest moth (aptly named Goliath) and tried to keep the leeches from eating us alive. We arrived in our coastal village at the same time another village was being wiped out by a huge tsunami. We, of course, had heard nothing of it until we called my parents from the solar powered telephone and they were grateful we were alive!

4. I have seen both MC Hammer and Millie Vanilli in concert!!! Do you still respect me? (not to mention Wierd Al Yankovich, Rob Bass, Young MC (Bust a Groove...), Tone Loc, Huey Lewis...)

5. I really used to think I was going to marry Adam Yauch from the Beastie Boys even though I had never met him. I have seen them in concert 5 times , once in a small club in London!

6. I changed my name to Kitty for a few weeks once while I took a road trip down the west coast. My amiga went by the name of River!

7. My husband is a hunter. So, along with berries, pears and bee pollen, our freezer is also full of moose and venison!

I'll have to catch up on tagging others on my next post!! xoxo, Kelly O

Interview that works and Dance Party!!

Oops! I think this works now! Sorry for the confusion yesterday. Every little new thing I do on the computer is a great learning experience :) Our dance party was a blast!! There wasn't a very big turn out, but the music was awesome and we had so much fun dancing! Lots of people called at the last minute with sick husbands. I think they had dance-itis! Actually, I'm serious! Really, I think a lot of people are afraid to dance, but hopefully they'll hear about how much fun we had and be sure to make it next time. The people that were here were into dancing and it was so much fun! I know that in the past, I have usually waited until I was a few cocktails deep before I would shake it on the dance floor. I think my favorite change I have made since going raw is not drinking alcohol of any sort-it feels so good to me (5 months and loving it!) I don't have a myspace account, so I'm not sure how to link you, but I know Vinnie (our fab musician for the evening) has a profile under KnownV if you'd like to check out his music! He is also the assistant order man for the local health food store and published a book called Today's Future by Vincent Rannazzisi. What a multi-talented inspiration!

I have been tagged to share 7 things you may not know about me, so stay tuned...
Shake your bootie! Kelly O

Video Interview on JuiceFeasting.com and Raw Chocolate

Drum rolls please....:) Here it is folks! My 1st ever Internet video! David and Katrina Rainoshek interviewed me for Day 12 of information on the subscribed part of their website. The focus of info was bodywork. They were pondering how they knew quite little about bodywork when the light bulb ignited and they realized they have a Certified Juice Feasting Consultant who does Bodywork! A couple hours later, they recorded this live Skype interview...I am a bit shy to share it as I was nervous, but the deed is done and here she is...Click here http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2080026688530675763&hl=en to enjoy!

I did have a request for the Raw Peroski recipe, so I'm going to post it! We all have vastly different taste preferences and as this wasn't my fave, it is pretty good wrapped in nori with a dipping sauce. The recipe I am listing is actually 1/4 of the original and it still looked like a double batch!

Raw Peroskis!

1.Grind 1/4 lb of flax seed in a Vitamix or Blendtec without adding water.

Grind 1/4 of sunflower seeds in a food processor.

2. Combine ground flax seed and sunflower seeds with the following ingredients in the bowl and mix with your hands well:

1 lb carrot and celery pulp (from juice or grated and squeezed)

1.5 bunches green kale, thinly chopped in processor

1/2 bunch cilantro or parsley, thinly chopped in processor

2 medium lemons, juiced

1 teaspoon raw agave nectar

1 jalapeno or other spice to taste

1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil (optional)

1/4 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt (optional, but recommended!)

Let me know how you like it!

We are having a DANCE PARTY at our house tonight!! Watch out Whitefish! Our friend is a really talented musician (he and his wife played in a jazz trio at our wedding) and after seeing him perform recently and dancing the night away, we asked him if he would come play if everyone brought a small donation for the tunes :) I made some Raw Cacao balls to keep the party jumping! I don't follow a recipe, but here are the ingredients (it's hard to go wrong with raw chocolate!

Spirulina Raw Chocolate Bliss Balls!
hazelnuts and pecans (soaked overnight)

Cacao Nibs

carob powder

goji berries

coconut oil

coconut oil

Spirulina

shredded coconut

vanilla extract

Place everything in a food processor and blend! Taste and adjust ingredients until you need to stop eating chocolate! Roll into balls and refrigerate until serving. YUMM!!

Don't eat these anywhere close to bedtime! Raw chocolate is the only place I get any caffeine and I find it really stimulating! It feels good, but can be easily over-done. It is an amazing superfood that is high in magnesium, which is great for the heart. Too much fat is not good for the heart, which is what is often combined with raw chocolate, so look for balance here...and everywhere! Turn on some music and dance, dance, DANCE!! XO, Kelly Ordway

p.s. If you are new to becoming computer literate like myself, you can click on the highlighted and bolded words to take you to website links. Most of the raw food words will take you to Raw Food World where you can buy all the raw goodies (appliances, books, treats) that your heart desires! It is run by Matt Monarch, who is a sweet, conscious lad that I feel really good about supporting :)

Raw Peroskis, Pear/Parsley smoothie and Mt Siyeh

Aloha! Our cross country ski in Glacier Park manifested as planned and it was a magnificently sunny, gorgeous day!! About 10 glides into our journey, I slipped and my pole broke off about a foot from the bottom! They were old poles we salvaged from the depths of our old ski stack of stuff and they finally said they had done enough! Luckily, the snow was just about right and I was able to ski with my little stub of a pole for the day! Lake Mac Donald is ice-free and gleaming and the mountain peaks look so glorious covered in snow. I can only imagine how the land LOVES the peace and tranquility of the winter. Actually, I can feel it!
Unfortunately, I forgot my camera!! So, I have posted photos from a great journey to the peak of Mt Siyeh from a few years ago. It didn't feel like we took quite the right route up this cliff band you need to pass and it was feeling sketchy. We had actually decided it was best to surrender and turn back, but after a few steps, saw a route that looked more do-able. We made it to the peak and this amazing 4,000 vertical drop looking down on Cracker Lake. Soon after we reached the top, the fog starting rolling in and we had to jam before our descent turned slippery. My husband told me after he proposed at a family BBQ that he had thought about proposing that day, but forgot as we were more focused on our safety. :) A friend of ours has this photo on his website he has just begun called
GlacierHikers. Check it out-he takes amazing photos (his photo is our logo for Rolling Mirror Massage) and gives advice on great trails in Glacier Park.
Last night, I tried a new recipe I was really excited about because it incorporates juice pulp! I subscribe to the Boutenko family's newsletter (they wrote Raw Family) and it had this recipe for Raw Peroskis.
Raw Family, by the Boutenko's
Here's a fun blurb about the Boutenko family and their book:
The inspiring true story of a family who, through necessity, found themselves on the raw/live food path. Victoria Boutenko and her husband and two children came here from Russia in 1990. After living the American Dream lifestyle, including eating the Standard American Diet (SAD) for a few years, everyone became ill with various serious diseases. The final straw for Victoria was when she was told that her son, diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes, would have to be injected with insulin for the rest of his life and that there was no cure. Through her despair, Victoria reasoned that there must be another way; another answer for her son and family. She began to look for people who looked healthy and then she would ask them what they did to be healthy. One day she saw a very radiant and happy looking woman in the bank and again asked the question. The answer: "Eat raw food" was shocking and unexpected, but something about the simplicity of it rang true in her soul. Written in Victoria's unique style, each member of the family also contributes by describing their experiences from their own perspective.

Inspiring indeed! Does anyone know what a peroski is? It appears it might be some kind of Russian meatball. Anyway, I'm not going to post the recipe (unless you request it) because I thought it was really bland. I made my yummy dipping sauce that I made for spring rolls for dipping the balls (out of raw sesame seeds or tahini, garlic, ginger, Bragg's and an orange or 2), so that made it palatable. Then, I grabbed the nori sheets and rolled them up into little cigars to dip with a side of red bell pepper slices, so it ended up tasting pretty good and it will be my lunch tomorrow, but I doubt I will be inspired to make it again. I have heard their Green For Life book is amazing and I tried a green smoothie recipe from it that I thought was delish!
Smoothie

2 pears

1/2 bunch parsley

Blend and enjoy!

Green For Life, by Victoria Boutenko

Simple, si? I have frozen pears in the freezer from the fall harvest, so my pears were frozen. I imagine it would be refreshing to add a few ice cubes to this recipe. Yum!
Sunshine blessings! Kelly Ordway

Raw Emotions (Raw Foods is a Means, not an end)

If you haven't already, I recommend listening to David and Katrina Rainoshek's interview with Angela Stokes at
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5177119038302350951 She has just published her book Raw Emotions and I love what she had to say about it. Most people find that as they continue to eat raw food, they need less food to sustain optimum health (this is assuming you are eating a balanced, nutrient dense diet), but may find they still have the habit of eating more. This brings up the addictive or emotional habit of filling up with food or avoiding things that a clean body and mind show so clearly. Moving from a cooked food diet to a raw food diet can change everything, as it allows me to see things even more clearly, but I can't (rather, I choose not to) just eat whatever I want, simply because it is raw.
I noticed last week that my perspective had shifted more from "how do I maintain my optimum health and happiness" to the logistics of "how am I going to maintain an all-raw diet". Sneaky how that can happen. Simply acknowledging this shift allowed my perspective to re-open to the greater intention. It certainly has not changed how I want to maintain my diet because raw works so well for me, but somehow everything felt less weighted and so full of light! It reminded me of massage school. When I first began working on people, and everything I was learning was so new, I was more cerebral. The concepts I was learning were 1st in my intellect. As these became 2nd nature, my spirit and energy were able to flow through more freely...unimpeded by my intellect (generally!) and that is where the real healing practice begins. So, let us remain motivated and inspired-all these new, glorious habits will soon become 2nd nature! May the light always shine through! Also, I have found myself eating more than I need and feeling a full belly. I am aware that I need to give more time in between meals to allow my body to digest and assimilate. Simple refining!

Yesterday, I was also re-inspired to JUICE! It's funny after such an intimate relationship with my beloved Green Star, I had begun to look at it as a cleaning job. But, mmm, the juice tasted so yummy and nourishing...game back on! Today and yesterday I made :1 quart spinach, celery, cucumber, apple, ginger juice! Yum!

I just took a computer interlude to call a friend. She said she just made her 1st green smoothie ever and her little boy was loving it! She figured, if he can do it, I can! As we continued talking, I could hear him in the background..."more green smoothie!" Remember that ripple effect?!
The sky is clear again and I get to go cross country skiing with an amiga today, hopefully in Glacier Park if all goes as planned.

Last night, I did a little Skype chat interview with David and Katrina Rainoshek of JuiceFeasting
since it was Day 12 and the information was focused on Bodywork (which is what I do at Rolling Mirror Massage). I was nervous which is so silly, but it was my 1st little video that is going public! Also, I had just gotten my computer cleaned out for the 1st time ever and 10 minutes before we were supposed to chat, I realized that my web cam and Skype both needed to be re-downloaded and my computer shut itself down 3 times in a row...aaah, the trials of modern life! How truly insignificant, si? That should be posted on their site in the next few days and I'll try to create a link here!
Warm love to you! XOXO, Kelly O

Colonics...

...feel good! Okay, I actually intended this picture to insert later in the post, but I suppose the flowing water is appropriate here as well! This photo was taken last fall, but the snow is melting and things will be transforming soon from brown and grey to green and greener!
Perhaps the colonic itself is not exactly enjoyable, but it really isn't unpleasant for me and I certainly feel great afterwards! It is also presented with such love and compassion, which is important! If you live locally, I have always gone to Linda Blair (406-755-6588). It feels like pushing a reset button-very clearing, obviously! There is more uneliminated waste matter in our colons than we can imagine and it feels so good to release that. What do you think those big bellies in our country are full of? Matt Monarch from www.rawfoodworld.com, who wrote Raw Success, has inspired me to continue regular colon cleansing post-Juice Feasting. My last colonic was during the modified portion of my Juice Feast (5-6 weeks ago, my how time flies!) I will get my next one after we return from our honeymoon in Guatemala (in about 5-6 weeks). I also decided to wait to do my parasite cleanse (capsules from Health Force Nutritionals) until I get back from Guatemala-good idea, I reckon! You can check out that cleanse here!

I read a great quote yesterday...

To get back my youth, I would do anything in the world except exercise, get up early or be respectable. Oscar Wilde

XOXO, Kelly O
p.s. Yesterday was a very simple eating day...2 or 3 apples, 2 oranges, 1 grapefruit and spring rolls and a salad for dinner.
p.s.s. If you check out my blog regularly or want to, you can subscribe to it on the upper left hand corner of this page. Raw Food dinner leads to Ecstatic Drumming rather than food coma!!

I wanted to try a new recipe while I had time over the weekend, so we got to have Raw Crab Cakes-they were a yummy success! I got the recipe from
www.thesunnyrawkitchen.blogspot.com Here she is:

Vegan Bay "Crab" Cakes
Recipe by Cherie Soria (as printed in Purely Delicious magazine)
Serves 6 (Yields twelve 1/4 cup cakes)

1/2 C. dried porcini mushrooms, soaked for 1 hr, drained and diced
1 1/2 C. zucchini, spiralized
1 1/2 C. Organic Raw Macadamia Nuts , ground
1/4 C. onion, finely minced
1/4 C. celery, finely minced
2 Tbls. nutritional yeast
2 Tbls. lemon juice
2 Tbls. red bell pepper, finely diced
2 tsp. Organic Kelp Granules
2 tsp. ground golden flax seeds
1 tsp. garlic, pureed
1 tsp. red jalapeno, minced (or substitute cayenne pepper to taste)
1 tsp. Celtic Sea Salt

1. Using a pair of kitchen shears, cut the spiralized zucchini into pieces about one inch in length. (A Spiral Slicer (Saladacco) and a chef's knife are perfect for this task.)
2. Combine the zucchini and all remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. Add a few drops of water, if needed, to form a firm dough.
3. Using a 1/4 C. measure, create small cakes, about one inch deep.
4. Place the cakes on a nonstick dehydrator sheet and place in Excalibur dehydrator at 120 degrees for 1 hour; then turn over to dehydrate the other side for another 1-2 hours. (This temperature will not be too hot to destroy the nutrients and enzymes, since the dough has enough water to stay cool during this time.)
5. Serve with a generous serving of Creamy Dill Sauce.

Creamy Dill (Tartar) Sauce
1/4 C. Organic Raw Cashews , soaked in water 4 hours
1 1/2 Tbls. lemon juice
2-3 Tbls. water, as needed
1/4 C. dill weed, minced
2 Tbls. celery, minced
1 Tbls. horseradish
1 Tbls. red onion, minced
1/2 tsp. Celtic Sea Salt

1. Place cashews with lemon juice and enough water to form a thick, smooth cream.
2. Add remaining ingredients and pulse.

Mixture should have a slightly chunky texture. Serve over Crab Cakes.

I deleted 1 Tbsp ground psyllium from the crab cake recipe because I'm not sure about using it in recipes, since it binds to nutrients. The crab cakes were really yummy and also rich from the macadamia nuts, so they go great with salad. My honey and our friend opted not to have a side of steak with the raw meal of the evening and we found ourselves spontaneously drumming after we ate! Michael (my hubby) said, "Take a picture, baby! Show your blog what happens when you eat raw food!" The drumming was so fun and it amazes me how it just makes the room vibrate with energy! Celebrate! Kelly Ordway

Getting started with Raw Foods...

My leg feels straighter than it looks!
Ask and you shall receive...questions! Here is a comment from a reader..

Just let me tell you how I got to your website. I was searching about raw food online, and got to you. I believe I was directed divinely to find you. I think I will know better now about raw foods and juice feast; you will be my source, huh? Maybe you can give me some tips in how to start. I have been hesitating to start eating raw food for the last few years, tough wanted so much to start. I think, the idea of juice feast is wonderful. Health food, yoga and meditation are also part of our spiritual practice to enlightenment; you are on the right path, and that is why you fell so much love and joy in your heart. I do perfectly understand.
Looking forward to reading your blogs.
Namaste.

First off, for tons of info on Juice Feasting, go to www.juicefeasting.com. When in the solid food world, there are simple things to focus on and add to your diet to start going raw. Try to eat 1-2 lbs of green leafy vegetables everyday! That may sound like a lot, but it's actually pretty easy and definitely delicious!

Green Smoothies - frozen berries, 1/2 lb green leafy veggies (spinach and lacinato kale
are my faves) and water are the basic base. In addition, you may like to add any other kind of fruit (bananas or oranges tend to be my mainstay), superfoods such as bee pollen, Spirulina and Vitamineral Greens and perhaps a few drops of stevia if you like an even sweeter taste. Yum!

Salad - Eat at least one every day! If you are still eating cooked food, start each meal with a big salad. This will fill your tummy with live enzymes and also begin to fill you up, so you eat less of the cooked food. Over time, increase the size of the salad and begin to cut out the cooked food. I like to add lots of sprouts and some avocado and olives...yum!

Green Juice - Are you getting sick of the word green yet? It's called chlorophyll and it's molecularly identical to the hemoglobin in our blood except for one molecule (where chlorophyll is magnesium, hemin is iron). And it tastes good too! Whether you make it yourself or go to the juice bar, drink your green juice often - it's such a great way to start the day! I use the Green Star juicer. Don't be shy to drink a quart rather than the standard 12-16 oz, or even better yet, simply juice extra so you can enjoy a pint later in the day! My mainstay is celery, cucumber, chard or kale, ginger and a little apple. Oooh, baby!

A good daily habit...
early am - quart of water with fresh lemon juice and cayenne
breakfast - green juice
mid-morning goodness - green smoothie
lunch - big, yummy salad
dinner - green smoothie or salad

As you have time and interest, pick a raw recipe you want to expole. Some can be ridiculously time consuming, others are very simple. last night, we filled spring rolls with red bell pepper, sprouts, shredded carrot and spinach. I made an impromptu diiping sauce in the blender (Vitamix or Blendtec are amazing!) with tahini, garlic, ginger, Bragg's liquid aminos and a tangelo. It is such a delicious way to eat raw veggies and took barely any time at all to prepare. It just takes the step of making something new for the 1st time. My husband even decided to save his meat/noodle/veggie dish for lunch the next day because he loves spring rolls!

As well as adding these new yummies, what do want to stop putting in your body? In October, when I started getting really excited about raw food, I decided to go for it and eliminate all beer, wine, alcohol and meat. I was ready to do it...to feel my best...aaah, life without a hangover ever is truly fabulous!! This has to go beyond pure willpower and be fueled by your spirit because you love the way it makes you feel. Yes, the body feels great, but the mind is also clearer and spirit feels illuminated! What works for you?
Another comment...
I really needed to read that post today. Thanks so much. I'm off to write my love letter. See how that ripple effect works?
Would anyone like to share their love letter? You can always be anonymous! xoxo, Kelly O

Raw food isn't a phase, it's a lifestyle...

You can tell this was a few weeks ago because I have a ponytail! This is the magnificent view you get on a clear day when you hike to the top of Hellroaring Peak from Big Mountain. Yahooo!

Raw food isn'
t a phase, it's a lifestyle. It's not something you can unlearn when you know about it, even more so when you've experienced it - you can't forget the energy, how much better you look and feel, how much more connected and loving you feel. That stuff is with you for the rest of your life. So when you walk your talk, when you're non-judgemental (as much as you can be), and when you follow a path that people may not see the truth in (yet), you give them a gift. You give them the gift of example, and you make it easier for them to see the doorway, ultimately leaving it for them to decide whether they want to go through or not.
Russell James blog, at therawchefblog.com

I found this statement so true and inspirational for me. It , of course, may apply to anything that resonates in our highest truth! You are my teachers! Aaah...we have sunshine today!! Let's give it a good ol' Montana Yahoooo!! I am counting the days (20) until we are honeymooning in Guatemala and I am absorbing the sunshine at Lago Atitlan. I am excited to share my experience there with the blog folk-it will be my 1st experience "traveling in the raw"-wish me luck and prosperous produce (and occasional internet access)! Thank you to those who send in comments-it means so much. Sometimes I have no idea if anyone is even reading this, so it helps inspire me to have feedback. I also want to welcome any questions! Lifestyle update...I had written about Juice Feasting one day a week. That 1st Monday, I juiced all day (drank 3 quarts). When I got home from work that evening, I had a green smoothie, so it was a liquid day, but not all juice. It felt great! One thing I shared with my homegirl who is feasting right now, is to savor the simplicity of Juice Feasting. You know what you are going to consume each day, Juice! The food combining is simple and my body likes that! Being back in a raw food diet is fun because I can have those yummy healthy foods I was craving like seaweed, salad and green smoothies and go out to dinner, but I am also new to this journey and am learning. I am finding myself starting with a slow food intake...beginning the day with my lemon, MSM water then a green smoothie, then fresh fruit. All of a sudden, I am really hungry in the afternoon and my meal (yummy and healthy as it is) is too much for my stomach at once. I am trying to learn how to have small meals ready to eat when my hunger really turns on in the mid to late afternoon. More balance is always in order, si? At this time, I also felt like focusing on all juice one day a week made me feel like I didn't want to juice any other days for breakfast because I was going to drink only juice in a few days. I know this is my mind, rather than my body speaking here, but it is a part of my collective consciousness and right now I am aiming for day to day balance- how about another Yahoooo!!! ...must be the sunshine! Love (I mean it!), Kelly Ordway :)

The Ripple Effect and Love Letters to your Body

Let your teacher be Love itself. Rumi

Do you notice the ripple effect in your life? Who knows how many people David Rainoshek has directly helped with the amazing journey of Juice Feasting, let alone how many lives he has touched indirectly. My soul sister just reached the 30 day mark on her Juice Feast! Another friend is around day 20. Ma-in-Law experienced 11 days! Two others may embark in April. It just amazes me how much we can uplift and inspire one another effortlessly...simply by following our bliss! The Juice Feast is a very tangible representation of this, but let's consider energy. What are the wondrous ripple effects of radiating LOVE? When we smile, laugh and feel comfortable in our skin...can you imagine how the world' s vibration rises? Speaking of feeling comfortable in our skin, my friend never liked his teeth. He thought they looked funny. His girlfriend at the time told him to write a love letter to his teeth. They were teaching in the Bahamas, so he wrote something like this..."Darling mouth, You have teeth like a parrot fish. We have shared so many lovely meals together, picnics on the beach..." That was the beginning of her falling in love with him. They're married now and have a beautiful Michelin-man baby!
My least loved body part has been my thighs. At times I have been ashamed to show them, embarassed they were mine. It is still the one part of my body that could use more firming, but I love my thighs, let me count the ways...for bolding carrying me across soccer fields most of my life, for enduring the burning back leg, so I could glide through trees on a powder day, for being a lap for my sweet niece and nephew, for dancing the night away in laughter, for holding my body in meditation, for kneeling in the garden while I eat fresh strawberries out of the patch...the love letter is endless! My life would be so different without the gift of my thighs. I have noticed That if I am not feeling good about part of my body, or simply part of myself, it blocks the energy flow and creates even deeper stagnation, leading in a downward spiral to more dislike. Aaaah...fortunately, the upward spiral of love is infinitely more powerful than the lack of it. May we raise the vibration from shame and embarrassment to GRATITUDE and LOVE!! Namaste! Kelly Ordway :)

Fast Food Nation vs. The Cottage Inn...

...opposites on the spectrum of respect for humanity and lifeforms. My husband and I watched part of Fast Food Nation the other evening-Yuck!! We had no idea what we were getting into. I had imagined it was going to be a Michael Moore-like documentary, but it wasn't. It was a disgusting representation of the lack of respect for LIFE that actually really happens. We had to turn it off and couldn't get to sleep for a while afterwards. It stimulated talk and focus on what we can do to make this world a better place, but I think there is a much better way to get the information across. It still makes me quiver thinking about it and I am so GRATEFUL for all of the LOVE and RESPECT that does exist in this world. Let's continue to manifest more and live it! On the opposite end of the spectrum from this horrible movie was our Friday evening at the Cottage Inn...a snuggly restaurant/bar made with love by local folk. It was closed for a celebration of life...a leap year baby birthday! The owners' son (19 years old) and his friends took up the stage to play some really great live music and I am inspired by the youth following their hearts and spreading JOY!
On that note, this is going to be a short, but sweet post because I am going cross country skiing with my amigas!! Big Love to you!! xoxo, Kelly O
