Locks of Love and key lime pie!!

Well, amigos, yesterday, I made the big leap and donated 10" of my hair to Locks of Love! Have you heard about it? Here's the 411...

WHAT IS LOCKS OF LOVE?
Locks of Love is a not-for-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 and younger with medical hair loss. These custom-fitted hair prosthetics are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale to children whose families meet the Locks of Love Board of Directors guidelines.
The organization, which began operation 1998, has helped over 2,000 children to date. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive as a result of the internet and word of mouth as well as publicity Locks of Love receives in newspapers, magazines and on television programs.
Donors provide the hair, volunteers open and sort the donations, and the manufacturer hand-assembles each piece, which requires approximately four to six months. Children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this a charity where children have the opportunity to help other children.
Locks of Love provides its recipients with a custom, vacuum-fitted hairpiece made entirely from donated human hair. The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of scalp hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. Most of the applicants suffer from an auto-immune condition called
alopecia areata, for which there is no known cause or cure. Others have suffered severe burns, or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem, in addition to many other dermatological conditions that result in permanent hair loss.
Donated hair is evaluated for its usefulness according to the following guidelines:
The donated hair must be at least 10 inches (preferably 12") in length
It must be bundled in a pony tail or braid
Hair must be free of bleach. Colored hair and permed is acceptable.
The hair must be clean and dry, placed in a plastic bag, and mailed in a padded envelope to: Locks of Love 2925 10th Avenue N., Suite 102 Lake Worth, FL 33461-3099
Monetary donations to Locks of Love are tax-deductible. Donated hair that is not suitable for use in children's hairpieces may be sold at fair market value to offset the cost of manufacturing.
For more information about Locks of Love, please e-mail us
info@locksoflove.org

Many salons are familiar with the program, so call and ask. Sage Spa & Salon in Whitefish offers free haircuts to people donating their hair and take the time to send your hair in for you and everything, so this one act of love involves lots of different people donating their time and energy! What a sweet blessing! I didn't realize quite how short 10" was going to leave my hair and I had to sit with the decision for a moment before I gave her the heads up to cut off my pigtails. Since completing my Juice Feast, I have felt called to donate my hair as an act of LOVE and as a completion of the cleansing circle I have been immersed in. Feels good! My hair hasn't been this short since I was 3! There is something about shorter hair that makes me feel peppy and hold my posture straighter and stronger!!

We had 2 of our dear friends over for dinner last night and everyone contributed something deliciously made with love. My hubby grilled moose roast (he's a hunter, if you haven't figured this out yet!), I made angelhair pasta out of zucchini using a saladacco (these things are awesome and are going to help my consume the masses of zukes pouring out of the greenhouse this summer!) and topped it with pesto (fresh, frozen from the garden), marinated mushrooms and nut cheese. The sweet amigos were conscious of my raw food diet (and enjoy it for themselves alot as well!) and brought a salad, homemade salad dressing and raw key lime pie...WOW! It was such a beautiful slow meal created with joy and shared with the best of company...aaah! The key lime pie recipe is so simple and delish, so here she is...

Raw Key Lime Pie

3/4 lb dates
1/2 lb almonds
3 avocado
4 limes, juiced
1/4 cup maple syrup (can sub raw honey or agave nectar)

Blend nuts and dates in food processor. Press into pie pan (optionally grease pie pan with olive oil). Blend avocado, limes, and sweetener of choice. Pour into pie pan. Freeze 3-4 hours. Remove one hour before serving. Garnish with kiwi, lime slice or sprinkle with bee pollen or shredded coconut. SAVOR in sweet company!
This recipe is from Deva Kaur Khalsa, a beautiful Kundalini yogi and Sikh who lives a graceful life of service with her husband in Espanola, New Mexico. Check out http://www.thecleanse.com/ for their mostly raw cleansing program which includes Kundalini Yoga and Meditation.

Well, sweet honeys, it's time to go to yoga and begin my work day. Much love to you...Have the Best day ever!! xo, Kelly Ordway :)

Cheesy Sprinkle

Every human is a master soul. There is no need to become a master, only to allow one's self to open to their mastery.

Aloha! I feel a bit more at a loss for words now that I am not sharing my Juice Feasting experience, but there is still plenty to share! Last week, I was in a funk...a pre-menstrual, getting over a sickness, ugly cold sore on my lip, sick of the dark days of winter funk! I even got a pregnancy test for the 1st time ever because it has been over a month (which is pretty normal for me) and I was really feeling hormonally unstable. The test was negative, for all those mamas and wishful aunties holding their breath! Alas, I feel like a normal human again and we were blessed with several days of sunshine in a row! Bliss! The forecast is dark again, but as long as I keep getting out there in it, my spirits are lifted. I have been entertaining the idea of Juice Feasting one day a week to see how my body likes that- a day of rest, a day of checking in and balancing. I haven't set a clear intention on it yet, but will experiment with Mondays beginning tomorrow. At the Hippocrates Health Institute, they drink only juice one day a week (Wednesdays) and if I do it consistently throughout the year, all of a sudden, I will have experienced 52 days per year of rejuvenating, nourishing Juice Feasting!
I am still eating highly raw (there are sneaky little things in there like nori sheets that are toasted...) and feel like this is best for me. Most of the time it's really simple...green smoothies, green juice, salad, fresh fruit, guacamole, salsa, avocado and sprouts wrapped in romaine and occasionally I feel a strong need to mix it up more often. It will be fun to continue to explore raw foods that I enjoy and that sustain me the best. One savory food that I love to sprinkle on salads, wraps and walnut tacos is Cheesy Sprinkle, which has come to be affectionately known in our home as Nut Cheese. It just takes a minute to combine all the ingredients in a food processor:
Nut Cheese
2 cups nutritional yeast
1 cup walnuts (raw and preferably soaked and dehydrated)
1 cup sunflower seeds (raw and preferably soaked and dehydrated)
2 tsp salt (Celtic sea salt or Himalayan crystal salt)

Sprinkle on anything and enjoy!! Store in refrigerator.

One very exciting development is that I am going to be doing all of the food preparation for lovely Jodi Petlin's yoga retreat here in May over Memorial Day weekend. Wanna experience amazing yoga and raw food bliss under the big skies of Montana? It 's going to be very FUN! Participants will arrive Saturday, May 24th and leave early Thursday May 29th. Save the date on your calendar and I will post more detailed information when the flyer is finished (soon!). The nourishment part of the retreat looks like a juice sandwich...2 days of delicious raw, green juices sandwiched on each side with 1.5 days of raw food bliss! I look forward to sharing this amazing nourishment with others and preparing it with lots of LOVE!!
Having the best day ever?! YAHOO!! Blessings, Kelly Ordway

Broccoli-Brazil Nut Mash with Miso Gravy!

The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison. - Dr Ann Wigmore

Cross country skiing and working again, so I'm feeling good! And although it has been cold (12 degrees this morning) the sun has been shining and that feels great!! I love the sign from hotsprings the other day..Limp In, Leap Out! I found a yummy recipe on thesunnyrawkitchen.blogspot.com and tried it out today. I am so glad I did, since I was ready to break out of my rut and taste something different-super fast to make and really yummy! I served it with fresh sprouts and sliced tomatoes...
Brazil-Broccoli Mash with Miso Gravy
From Ani Phyo's Raw Food Kitchen (Serves 4)
1 clove garlic
1 pinch ground black pepper
pinch sea salt
1 c. raw Brazil nuts (or walnuts, pecans, etc)
2 c. broccoli, chopped

Process the garlic, pepper, and salt into tiny pieces. Add Brazil nuts and process into a powder. Empty this powder into a bowl and set aside. Next, process broccoli while slowly adding the Brazil nut powder back in. Serve with Miso Gravy.

Miso Gravy

¼ c. miso
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 clove garlic
½ orange, peeled and seeded
1/3 c. extra virgin olive oil
2 Tbsp pitted dates

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Add a touch of water to the gravy if it is too thick for your taste.

Time for snuggling with my husband and celebrating his birthday tomorrow!!xoxo, Kelly O

To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, that is to have succeeded. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Well, I really hate to admit it, but I got full on sick :( I thought I was going to sneak through the staining job and flu season without any real damage, but yesterday, it hit me. I had a fever, headache and was pretty much bed-ridden all day. My honey brought me my lemon, Sulphurzyme water, tea and a cool cloth for my head. I took a hot, ginger epsom salt bath and weaved in and out of sleep while watching Planet Earth. Today, I feel much better already. The sun was shining and I played with the dogs outside and even left our door open for hours-fresh air in February! I'm going to have to re-start the count for my "it's been so-and-so years since I've been sick", but I figure I just stopped drinking and started eating mostly raw less than 4 months ago and have had pretty much had zero detox symptoms, so I need to give myself a little slack. It's about the journey, right? And life works in such mysterious ways. Lessons learned...Avoid staining projects in the middle of winter when the ventilation is less than desirable...If you do stain, try to use water-based products and atleast, for goodness sakes, wear a mask!! In a talk with one of my amigas today, I said, "getting sick this time of the year really makes me crave the sun, like it would heal me instantly". I just checked my inbox and received this helpful info from naturaw.com...

Three years ago an influenza epidemic swept through the maximum-security hospital of the insane where Dr. John Cannell worked.
Dr Cannel noticed that although wards all around his became infected, no patients on his ward became ill, despite intermingling of both patients and nurses. The only difference between his ward patients and other patients was that his ward had been taking 2,000 units of vitamin D3 every day for several months.
Previous to the out break, Dr Cannell Had read a journal that showed that vitamin D3 was a potent antibiotic, working by increasing the body's production of proteins called antimicrobial peptides. Antimicrobial peptides destroy the cell walls of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, including the influenza virus.
Dr. Cannell deductions were as follows:
1) The flu predictably occurs in the months following the winter solstice, when vitamin D3 levels are at their lowest. 2) influenza is more common in the tropics during the rainy season when sunlight is at its lowest. 3) Children exposed to sunlight are less likely to get colds. 4) Cod liver oil (which contains vitamin D3) reduces the incidence of viral respiratory infections. 5) Elderly who live in countries with high vitamin D consumption, like Norway, are less likely to die in the winter. 6) Epidemic influenza kills roughly a million people every year worldwide, usually by causing pneumonia.
Vitamin D may be a key hidden nutrient that can help prevent and treat the flu. Further Research shows that Vitamin D is also a key vitamin in overcoming 1) Heart Disease 2) Cancer 3) Diabetes 4) Inflammatory Bowl Disease 5) Rheumatoid Arthritis 6) Multiple Sclerosis 7) Osteoporosis 8) Autoimmune diseases
In Sumation, a big Thumbs up on Andrographis paniculata, Olive leaf Extract, Oregano Oil, Zinc, Elderberry, and Garlic. Thumbs Down on Airborne and Thumbs Down on Zicam.
The worst thing you can do is try to get back into the full work and not be totally recovered. I have seen too many folks jump back to quick, then go down again because they are not fully recovered. We get a yo-yo effect that will keep you down longer than if you just stayed down and fully recuperated.
Vitamin D deficiency causes muscle weakness and muscle aches and pains in both children and adults. Mayo Clinic research talks about vitamin D3 and calcium eliminating mysterious aches and pains in the muscles and joints of their patients. They specifically talk about potential misdiagnosis of fibromyalgia, when the problem could well be vitamin D3 deficiency - something that can be easily tested for, and fixed.
Mayo clinic Research tested 150 children and adults in the study, which included 6 broad categories of ethnic groups, Overall, 93% of the were vitamin D- deficient
It has been estimated that 90% or more of our required vitamin D comes from exposure to sunlight. Anything that interferes with the penetration of solar ultraviolet radiation into the skin, such as increased melanin pigmentation and sunscreen use, will diminish the cutaneous production of vitamin D3.

Warm sun-shiny blessings! Kelly O

Snowboarding & Hot Springs for Valentine's Day!

We feel so blessed to have had all day together playing!! Powered by a quart of green smoothie and a yummy pink lady apple, my love and I snowboarded and skiied! (Actually, my love was powered by a pint of green smoothie, moose steak and eggs wrapped in an Ezekial tortilla...) You can see by the photo, it was a typical foggy day...the local brewery has a beer called Big Fog, or atleast used to-it's been a while since I bellied up :) We had so much fun and even made a few little video clips. I sound like a broken record, but again, they wouldn't finish uploading onto blogger. I am meeting with my computer guru on Monday, so maybe he'll be able to help. We stopped at home for a big yummy salad, grabbed our swimsuits and drove 1 1/2 hours to Hot Springs. On the way there, the sun shone on our faces every now and again - it was so delicious and I am hungry for more vitamin D. I think I should either look into supplementing in the winter, or go visit my family in Arizona even more often!! ;) For the 1st 1/2 hour soaking, we had the small pool all to ourselves and sunshine on our skin before it fell behind the mountains- it truly felt like pure Bliss! After some time, a family arrived and even the little 3 month old boy was soaking-he loved it! It must be like returning to comfort of the womb. Children's eyes never cease to amaze me. Their bodies are so tiny, but their eyes have the wisdom and innocence of sages-so sweet!
I haven't been writing down my daily food intake for the past few days, but it hasn't been much different than the last post. The green smoothies are so delicious and are so full of fresh green leafy vegetables and Spirulina. Here's some Spirulina info off my jar from Health Force Nutritionals: "Spirulina is an exceptional food and an incredible source of full-spectrum, non-toxic, absorbable nutrients. It is 60-65% protein, making it the world’s highest known source of protein. The protein in Spirulina contains all 8 essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. Unlike the uric-acid forming protein from animal products that contributes significantly to osteoporosis and can cause kidney stress, Spirulina’s protein is gentle on your kidneys and its Pycocyanin has been shown to actually help protect against kidney failure!
Spirulina provides high levels of vitamin B-12, and also contains iron (non-toxic in whole plant form), vitamin A (as non-toxic beta-carotene), a full spectrum of carotenoids, B-1, B-2, B-6, E and K. In addition, Spirulina provides a vast array of minerals, trace elements, phytonutrients and enzymes. Spirulina also offers beneficial fatty acids such as DHA, GLA and others which have been shown to possess potent anti-viral activity, chlorophyll and other beneficial pigments. The ancient Aztecs thrived on Spirulina from Lake Texcoco in Mexico. In addition, Spirulina has been a mainstay for generations in the diet of the people who live around the lake in Chad, Africa."

Pretty amazing stuff! We also made raw chocolate Valentine's Day treats with this amazing superfood. It only takes a few minutes! We simply mixed coconut oil, raw almond butter, coconut flakes, raw carob powder, cacao nibs, local honey, Spirulina, cinnamon and a tad of cayenne until it tasted yummy and rolled them into scrumptious balls-you wouldn't believe how easy and delicious this raw treat is-try it! It's also great with dried goji berries, but we're all out at the moment :) Dinner was another yummy salad (red leaf lettuce, sprouts, shredded carrots and beets, olives, kale and a new salad dressing I made for the 1st time (it's a keeper!). I'm not much for recipes, but here's my best educated guess at measurements:
Orange-Tahini Salad Dressing
  • 1 cup fresh squeezed mineola juice
  • 4 Tbsp tahini
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 Tbsp dulse
  • squeeze of Bragg's
  • 1/2 clove garlic
  • small chunk of ginger
  • couple dashes of cinnamon
  • small dash of cayenne

This dressing is creamy-licious-love it! So fresh! My last food tip for the day is to chop up a bunch of kale, add some olive oil and Himalayan crystal or Celtic sea salt and massage. The kale instantly turns darker green and becomes more palatable, like it has been marinated or wilted, but it's still raw! Good trick.

As for the past few days, the stain job really gave me the smackdown. Unlike Yoga and Juice Feasting, toxic chemicals and clean cells are not soul mates! I had my usual high energy all day after using the polyurethane with open doors and windows, but kept feeling my throat getting worse and worse until I hit a wall in the afternoon. No more errands or work, just straight to a ginger epsom salt bath. I am still feeling the effects and have certainly learned a lesson. I am grateful we live in a place with such beautifully clean air most of the time (not so good when there are forest fires!). Happy sweet Valentine's day out there! May the bright Universal Love be radiated and absorbed by all!

p.s. Green is the traditional color of the heart chakra, but a rose quartz pink has also been recognized as it's color in high frquencies, thus the color of my words today! p.s.s. You know about the Global Juice Feast starting on March 1st, si? If you haven't already, check out juicefeasting.com and globaljuicefeast.com. It is super exciting to have the energy of people all over the world transforming themselves and our world one delicious quart of juice at a time! Go Juice Feasters!! xoxo, Kelly O

Snow and Color!!

Blessings amigos! The snow has really been piling up on the roof outside our window and my love shoveled it off today, so we could have our view back and so the roof wouldn't collapse! Twice he came back in from downstairs after sliding down with the snow into an unexpected, but soft landing! I added the photo of our gorgeous produce so all my pictures aren't of grey winter...which reminds me...we booked our honeymoon tickets! My love and I celebrated our 7th year together by getting married on 07-07-07...synchronicities, si? Although we had a family camping honeymoon in the Bob Marshall Wilderness after our wedding, we look forward to our sunny, solo honeymoon in Guatemala at the end of March! That should guarantee a bit more color!
Life in the world of raw food eating is treating me well-I must say that my bowel movements are abundant and it just makes me think about what must happen when all that doesn't come back out. I am having several feet of bowel movements every day! I apologize for the details for those who would rather not go there, but it's amazing to me and it feels great! I am currently procrastinating a small staining project- the middle of winter isn't the best time to do it, but for the 1st coat, we just kept the wood fires burning and opened the doors and windows-still stinky though-yuck! It feels good to be back on track with my yoga practice because it feels so heavenly good! I ended up taking 6 days off from all exercise. I could feel some kind of virus trying to have a party in my cells and even though I continued to feel well, my body was asking for extra rest. Several people around me have gotten hit pretty hard and I'm happy to say my body is strong and healthy! This pray it survives the toxic staining process. I look forward to reaching the point where I can say, I haven't had a cold in 5 years!! I know I am on the path towards that. My last cold was October 2007, right after I began to really clean up my diet.

You may find that I am in a guacamole wrapped in romaine leaf rut, but we just had a bunch of avocados get ripe at the same time and it continues to be delicious! I have decided not to write down supplements anymore. In my smoothies, I still add fresh, green leafy vegetables, hemp oil, Vitamineral Greens or Earth, dulse, bee pollen and sometimes Green Magma. I am also taking digestive and systemic enzymes daily, as well as zeolites!

Juice Feast Breaking and Kundalini Yoga Meditations

Drum rolls please...

Ladies and gentlemen, Kelly Ordway has officially begun breaking her Juice Feast!

This is a fun photo of some local Bahamian boys diving into an oceanhole with great JOY! An oceanhole looks like a small lake, but the water is brackish (1/2 freshwater and 1/2 saltwater) because it connects with the ocean somewhere in it's great depths. It's nice to swim in water that not so salty and the boys loved seeing their pictures on our digital camera screen after their acrobatic flips! Two dear friends worked on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas at the Island School for several years and I was lucky enough to visit! It is an awesome alternative semester for high school students and they are doing really amazing projects such as wind and solar power, growing some of their own food, making bio-diesel from the oil off of the cruise ships, working with the locals, etc. Here, the photo is a symbol of me taking the leap of faith into solid foods! As much of a leap of faith it takes to begin a Juice Feasting journey, it also takes a leap of faith in the ability to apply all of our freshly realized epiphanies to the realities of daily life. I have both confidence and JOY!

My last post, on Day 39, I consumed 5 qts of goodness and Day 40 (I can't find my record sheet), I consumed 6 qts of goodness-wow! That really felt like consuming alot to me! So, on the eve of Day 40, my honey and I had a good talk and decided it was best for my body to begin adding solid foods. Although I realized earlier in the week that this may be a possibility, it still felt quite unexpected and unplanned. Where is my my Costa Rican tea garden that Angela Stokes so gracefully broke her Juice Feast in?! So, on Day 41, I began with my usual qt of lemon water followed by a qt of green juice. Then, after a work meeting, in the silence of our wellness center, I held my orange and tuned in with the Kundalini Yoga Adi Mantra...Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo (which translates from Gurmuki into English as ...I bow to the Infinite Creative Consciousness, I bow to the Divine Teacher within) and meditated with my orange in gratitude for all the truly lovely gifts in my life...high vibrational food, companions, environment, work, nature... I savored the juicy orange and voila! Solid foods are back on my menu! It was so nice to go out for dinner at Wasabi (the local sushi bar) for a light meal in the company of my love. I guess I shouldn't say voila, as I am easing slowly back into my delicious raw menu...here's what I consumed on my breaking day, in order...

Wednesday, February 6, 2008 - Day 41 - Juice Feast Breaking

  • 1 qt lemon, cayenne water w/1/2 tsp Sulphurzyme
  • 1 qt green juice
  • 1 orange, 1 apple
  • green salad
  • 1 qt green juice
  • green salad, seaweed salad, nori roll with only veggies (no rice)
  • VitalzymX 3 caps x1, digestive enzymes 2 caps x3, 1 cup chanca piedra tea
My stomach is very happy and bowels are moving very well! I didn't realize until now, the depth of the completion the moose was showing me. Also, on my list of things I want to write about on my blog, I had written 40 day meditations by Yogi Bhajan. Yogi Bhajan (the Master of Kundalini Yoga), shared specific cycles of time that help change old habits and develop new ones. Often, when someone chooses a Kundalini Yoga meditaion or kriya, they commit to a cycle of time to acheive desired effects. Each amount of time gives specific results: 40 days-It takes 40 days to break a habit. 90 days-It takes 90 days to confirm the habit. 120 days: The new habit is who you are. 1,000 days-You have mastered the new habit. The very extended lengths of time are obviously not appropriate for Juice Feasting, but perhaps eating live, raw foods after the Feast. Without this conscious intent, it turns out I have broken out of the Juice Feast after 40 days-how perfect! I feel blessed and grounded about my food choices, now that the arena is open. Once I leave the produce section of the grocery store, I am pretty much ready to check out! Once again, I made a video clip to share my Feast breaking, but it gets stuck trying to upload-any advice out there? I am going to continue my blog as I have enjoyed sharing so much and are grateful others are taking the time to read-stay tuned to see how my daily menu works out as I continue to modify my diet! A very BIG HEARTFELT THANK YOU for all your support- this has been a fun journey so far and certainly continues!!

JUICE FEAST Day 38 &39 - Winter Carnival

Monday, February 4, 2008 - Day 39
Winter Carnival was this weekend. It is a fun community event to gather during the short grey days of winter. This was some of the local flavor at the parade...falun dafa and sled dogs!
I have been meditating upon the statement: Ignorance is Bliss. In some ways it is so true, but at it's deepest level, truly false. In my life, once I have learned or discovered something that resonates as highest truth with me, I have no chioce, but to embrace it. Every little thing that I do that is not in accordance with my highest truth takes away a little of my personal power. We're not talking about controlling power here, but the kind of power that exists when you are vibrating on a high frequency. I am deeply feeling the benefits of only ingesting foods that I believe are 100% amazing for me. No second guessing my choices, simply feeling 100% confident that I am giving myself the best food ever! Honoring myself on this journey is of course about so much more than food. It is about giving myself the Best ever in every arena of my life: surrounding myself with amazing friends, uplifting studies, beautiful nature, yummy yoga classes and bodywork and doing the work that i love. Porque no? Why not? We deserve it!!
Since I began the modified Juice Feast last weekend, I have continued to feel amazing and just kind of assumed my weight was stabilizing and slightly gaining. Then, I weighed in Monday morning at 118 lbs and consulted with David regarding possible further modifications. I can certainly intake more, I just didn't realize I needed to and wasn't necessarily hungry for more, so I yummied down over 5 quarts of goodness today. If I am unable to start gaining weight by Wednesday, I will continue to modify towards the 4 Means to Get Your Greens paradigm, adding salads and then nuts and seeds. A funny thing happened...I was making an extra quart of green smoothie and had already gotten my 2 lbs of green leafy vegetables in for the day, so I just added a heaping Tbsp of Vitamineral Greens and blended away. After tasting, I poured it back in to add more spirulina because it didn't taste as good without all the greens! I really crave the green goodness!

JUICE FEAST Day 37 - Moose Medicine

Saturday, February 2, 2008 - Day 37

When we came home for the evening, it looked like ma-in-law was having a seance next door, but the power was just out :) We played Scrabble by candlelight and were grateful we heat our home with wood heat.
Moose Medicine...My amiga and I went cross country skiing today. Moose tracks crossed the ski trail several times, but we didn't know how old they were until we found ourselves at the top of a hill peering down at the young moose. No antlers, but too young to say it wasn't male. S/he stared back at us for a good while until s/he started eating snow off the branches and wandered off into the woods. We felt blessed and when I opened the Medicine animal book to look up moose, I opened directly to the page. I just love the beautiful synchronicities of LIFE!

Self-esteem is the medicine of the moose because it represents the power of recognizing that wisdom has been used in a situation and that recognition or a pat on the back is deserved. The bellow of a male moose can be viewed as a positive force, since it represents its willingness to "tell the world" about his feelings. This "tell the world" trait contains a joyfullness which only comes with a sense of accomplishment. This trait is therefore not a seeking of approval, but rather an enjoyment of sharing because of the spontaneous explosion of joy that comes from the deepest part of one's being. If you have chosen the moose card, you have reason to feel good about something you have accomplished on your journey. This may be a habit you have broken,a completion of some sort, an insight on a goal, or a new sense of self that you have fought hard to earn. It is a time of feeling harmonious pride and of recognizing those who aided you in the process.

How very appropriate and what a gift! Time to give thanks and praise...Thank you from the bottom of my heart to each person reading this page. Your presence and feedback fuels my fire! Deep thanks to David Rainoshek for following his heart's light and sharing this amazing journey with the world-your guidance is so valuable to me! Thank you to my honey bunches, family and friends who have supported me all the way. I feel truly fortunate. Thank you to the animal kingdom for continuing to bring beautiful messages and lessons into my life...to the plant kingdom for nourishing me so completely throughout my life. Thank you to all who have walked the path before me and inspired me to do so myself. This could go on and on, so a big, sincere THANKS to the universe!

JUICE FEAST Day 36 - Habitual Addictions

Friday February 1, 2008 - Day 36

It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it. W. Somerset Maugham

I challenge you to make your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks of those people who live what they teach, who walk their talk. Live with passion! Anthony Robbins

My love and I had a great discussion last night about habitual addictions. He declared no beer, wine or alcohol in his life for the past month. I, of course, have been on 100% raw liquid foods for the past 37 days. I find it an immense gift to take such an elogated break from the habits we have manifested over the years and it is so clear to see what my habitual addictions have been and what others have as theirs. Why do we ever over-eat? What is the underlying cause of this self-abuse? During my party days, I have certainly abused myself with alcohol. What made me want to continue when it made me feel so horrible? One thing is certain: We SO very much deserve to give ourselves the BEST, feel our BEST and share our BEST!! We are worthy!! We are worthy!! It is one thing to know this intellectually and another to experience it! It is time to explore what really serves us and others and truly make it a part of our lives. David Wolfe always says "Have the BEST day ever!" He says this every single day and he means it! Every day of our lives (that means NOW!), we have the very BEST day ever!! Isn't that exciting?! I feel very grateful to be giving myself this amazing gift right now and send a heartfelt thank you to all who inspire me in their beautifully unique ways! We all have so many gifts to share with each other.
